Key Largo Florida is the first of the Florida Keys as you drive south from Miami. For many it is the only stop as they consider the waters around Key Largo to be amongst the finest in the world for diving. Florida Keys Overseas Highway
The Overseas Highway is a 127.5-mile (205.2 km) long road carrying U.S. Route 1 through the Florida Keys. Completed in 1912, the entire roadway of the Overseas Highway was substantially rebuilt in the 1980s. Locations along the Overseas Highway from Key West to Key Largo are commonly given as &Mile Markers&. Numbering starts in Key West, and increases towards the East and Northeast up the path of the highway over the keys. Businesses along the highway began listing their locations by &Mile Markers&, adding decimal parts to more precisely indicate locations between mile marker signs.

There is the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, the Molasses Reef, the French Reef, the 327 foot Duane and the statue of Christ of the Abyss. And of course the Spiegel Grove, the largest ship ever intentionally sunk as an artificial reef and the newest dive attraction in the Keys. Visitors can learn how to identify marine life and particpate in underwater data collection during an annual, summertime Discovery Tour in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The tour is organized by the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF), and features nightly seminars on Florida Keys fish and invertebrate ecology, and tips for enjoying the reef. REEF works closely with local partners, such as the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the National Park Service, to monitor natural and artificial reefs and to engage the local sport diving community in conservation activities.

Established in 1963, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park created in the United States. The park, combined with the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, encompasses 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. These areas were established to protect and preserve the only living coral reef in the continental United States.

This gorgeous, ocean-front park is great for families. This Monroe County Park provides a protected man-made lagoon with a sandy beach and clear ocean water for safe relaxing swimming. This well maintained Keys beach is just one of this parks amenities. Others include a childrens playground, restrooms, picnic tables and barbecue grills, fishing jetty, boat ramp and ball fields.
